Our Services

01

Architectural Design

We offer full architectural design services from sketching to high-performance buildings on any project type. Small or large, from kitchens to additions to homes, housing, hospitality, and retail projects- let's kick off your project.

  1. Proposal - We conduct an interview to understand your needs, wants, and goals. We will then provide a proposal for our scope of services.

  2. Discovery - We visit your site, kick off design conversations, and start sketching. We work with you to create a program for your building based on goals, your project site, and budget.

  3. Schematic Design - We create early design concepts for how your project could look and feel. This looks like floor plans, elevations, and building massing.

  4. Design Development - We refine the design with more detail on layout, materials, and building systems. The project becomes more specific on both the exterior and interior.

  5. Construction Documents - We prepare detailed drawings that the builder will use to get permits and build. We are getting closer to bringing your design alive.

  6. Construction Administration - We check in during construction to be sure everything matches the design.

  7. Cheers - Your project is ready to enjoy! Take the keys and sit back. Time to enjoy good architecture, a better place, and an explored dream.

Passive House Consulting

Passive House is a measurable building standard that creates a comfortable, high-performance, and cost-saving home built to last a lifetime. This standard is not just for homes but can be applied to all new construction and renovation projects. We achieve this through energy modeling software, analytics, and specifications before the structure is built. This is included as a basis for all new design projects, as an add-on service for renovations, and as a consultant service for outside projects.

  • Energy Efficiency - Uses up to 70–80% less heating and cooling energy.

  • User Comfort - Even temperatures with no drafts or cold spots. Quieter buildings.

  • Healthy Building - Constant fresh, filtered air improves indoor air quality.

  • Durability - Better construction methods extend the life of the building.

  • Sustainable Impact - Lower energy demand reduces your carbon footprint.

Owner's Representation

Already have an architect but live far from New England? An owner’s representative acts as your trusted advisor, managing the project team, budget, and schedule while keeping your goals front and center. We use our background in design to help you get the best out of your project.

  • Advocate for the Owner – Acts as your trusted advisor during the project.

  • Manage the Process – Coordinates the team and manages schedules and budgets.

  • Oversee Design & Construction – Reviews plans and construction to ensure quality and goals are met.

  • Simplify Decisions – Explains options clearly so you can choose with confidence.

  • Protect Your Investment – Tracks progress and solves issues before they become problems.

About

Hennessey Architecture is an architecture and design studio founded in the Upper Valley, serving all of New England. Led by Tim Hennessey, the studio offers full architectural design services, Passive House consulting, and owner representation. We create meaningful, intentional, and playful spaces at every scale—from kitchens to additions to high-performance homes, missing middle housing, boutique hospitality spaces, and independent retail storefronts.

New England is a special place to us - home is here. All of our work is driven by our surroundings —the people, places, and environments that shape our communities. We are committed to minimizing our environmental and community impact through site-responsive and high-performance design.

We aim for opportunities to make good architecture through a careful response to each project location and the client’s way of living. We strive to design better places through research and collaboration. We aim to explore more possibilities with you through design iteration and our attention to detail. We create solutions that spark curiosity and enrich everyday life.
